François Galgani (PhD) is a former scientist at IFREMER (1983–2026) and chair of Echos d’Océans. A specialist in marine and plastic pollution monitoring and environmental management, he has led international groups (EU TGML, OSPAR, UNEP, IOC/GESAMP, ICES, CIESM). He contributed to G7, G20 and UNEA initiatives, authored 230+ papers, serves as editor-in-chief for special issues of Marine Pollution Bulletin and the Journal of Marine Systems, advises the European Commission and UNEP/MAP, and leads the plastic pollution section of World Ocean Assessment III.
