Biography

Marine Biologist, head of the Nekton Laboratory at the Italian National Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA), aimed to anthropogenic impact on marine vertebrate. Member States delegate as expert on Marine Litter, in the international working groups of the European Commission DG Environment (MSFD TG Marine Litter). Italian expert for the UNEP/MAP Barcelona Convention in the technical working group of the Contracting Parties (CORMON pollution & litter). Involved in the implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive 2008/56/EC (MSFD) and of the EcAp-MED process, supporting the Italian Ministry of Environment. Coordinator of the Italian network on litter ingested by sea turtles for the National monitoring programme within the MSFD-Directive. Coordinator of the National sampling campaign along the Italian coast, for monitoring microplastics abundance on the sea surface. Since 2017 to 2021 project manager for the European projects “Implementation of Indicators of Marine Litter on Sea Turtles and Biota in Regional Sea Conventions and Marine Strategy Framework Directive Areas” (INDICIT I, INDICIT II) focused on marine litter ingested by sea turtles and microplastic ingested by fish. Project manager of the UNEP/MAP project (TARTAMON) aimed at developing a protocol and capacity building on monitoring sea turtles, to harmonize methods and data collection on Mediterranean Basin. Since 2022 Senior Researcher at ISPRA. Since 2019 Tutor of four PhD candidates in: Ecology and Management of Biological Resources at University “La Tuscia”, Viterbo; Environmental and Evolutionary Biology at University “La Sapienza”, Roma; Evolutionary Biology and Ecology at University “Tor Vergata”, Roma; Biology at University “Federico II”, Naples.
