Paul Vriend is a senior scientific advisor on aquatic plastic pollution at the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management and a PhD candidate at Leiden University. He leads the development of a national monitoring strategy for riverine plastic pollution in the Netherlands and chairs the riverine litter expert group under the OSPAR Regional Sea Convention. In this role, he is responsible for developing a harmonised indicator for riverine plastic pollution.
