2nd International Forum on Marine Litter and Circular Economy - MARLICE 2022

The II International Forum on Marine Litter and Circular Economy was successfully held in Seville from 18 to 20 May 2022 with a marked participatory character in which civil society, the productive sector, research and public administration were able to jointly propose strategies to achieve waste-free oceans.

MARLICE 2022 presented as a structural principle the union of the different sectors involved in the problem of marine litter, with the aim of generating new windows of collaboration in the public-private sphere, to try to align strategies in the search for solutions, giving special prominence to the circular economy.

This second edition was coordinated by AEBAM and had the support of UNEP/MAP, the Regional Activity Centre for Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP/RAC), the OSPAR Commission, the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, the Fundación Biodiversidad, the Fundación Canaria Recicla, the Seville Aquarium and the ‘LIBERA: united against litter’ project created by SEO/BirdLife in alliance with Ecoembes, among other collaborative organisations and entities…

The event was part of the United Nations Decade of the Oceans, which held a meeting as part of the event. In addition, on the 16th and 17th, parallel meetings of the regional seas conventions to which Spain is a signatory were held, bringing together representatives of European and North African states.

1st International Forum on Marine Litter and Circular Economy on Island Environments - MARLICE ISLANDS 2023

1st International Forum on Marine Litter and Circular Economy on Island Environments - MARLICE ISLANDS 2023

The I International Forum on Marine Litter and Circular Economy on Islands Environment was held in Puerto de la Cruz on the Island of Tenerife (Canary Islands) on March 7 and 8, 2023. This was the First International Forum on Marine Litter and Circular Economy in Island Environments.

Islands suffer from ocean pollution in a particular way as they are potential transit zones for large ocean currents laden with macro and micro marine litter. On the other hand, reducing their role as a potential source of marine litter is a challenge that requires specific solutions. A future of clean oceans requires islands free of marine litter, which is why MARLICE ISLANDS 2023 was created.

MARLICE ISLANDS addressed the problem of marine litter from the singularity of isolated territories, seeking solutions on a local scale and bringing together experiences, studies and policies on islands in different seas and oceans of the planet.

MARLICE ISLANDS 2023 arose after the second edition of the MARLICE Forum, and is promoted by the Government of the Canary Islands in coordination with AEBAM.

MARLICE is an international participatory forum promoted by the Spanish Marine Litter Association (AEBAM) in which civil society, the productive sector, research and public administration align strategies to achieve waste-free oceans.
