INTEMARES-PROTAGONISTS’ SESSION. FISHING FOR LITTER

The aim of this session is to examine and debate the experiences of fishing for litter in the European scenario, with special emphasis on the new challenges posed by the European Commission for the onshore management of marine litter collected unintentionally by fishermen.
The dialogue will use the document of general criteria for marine litter fishing that was developed within the framework of the INTEMARES project under the name Clean Fishing Grounds as an example of good practices.
Planned as a session aimed at disseminating this document at an international level, the session will bring together national and international experts in a round table where the pros and cons of fishing for litter actions, the current situation and the contributions of the general criteria document for its future development will be debated.
