Biography

Senior researcher with more than 15 years of experience in tropical tuna biology, reproductive ecology, population dynamics, and sustainable fishing technologies. Specialized in the design, evaluation, and standardization of biodegradable Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs), having led some of the most extensive studies conducted to date in the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. His career combines advanced biological research (reproductive histology, lipid biochemistry, stable isotope analysis) with a strong applied focus on fisheries management. He has coordinated European projects (BIOFAD, ITUNNES) and international collaborations with IOTC, ICCAT, and ISSF, contributing directly to management processes and regulatory decision-making. In addition, he has extensive field experience, with more than 11 months at sea on purse seine and pole-and-line tuna fleets, leading biological sampling both onboard and in processing plants. His profile integrates science, management, sustainability, and technology transfer in tropical tuna fisheries and FAD impact mitigation.
