Biography

Chemical oceanographer (B.SC. in Chemistry and Ph.D. in Marine Sciences) is a researcher at the IEO since 2007, when he joined the A Coruña center. He has worked as a researcher in the Institute of Marine Research (IIM) of the CSIC and at the Vigo and A Coruña centers of the IEO, He has also made brief stays in centers in the United States, Germany, France and Portugal. He has also served for two years as an expert (“seconded national expert”) in the marine unit of the general directorate of environment of the commission European in Brussels. His main topic of interest is the oceanography of the estuaries, platform and adjacent ocean of the Northwest Iberian Atlantic margin. Currently he leads a research line of work aimed at study of litter in the marine environment, being the quantification of microplastics in sediments and water one of the main objectives of it. He has contributed in this new research line leading projects, with highly cited publications, reports and protocols and also with divulgation activitites. In this research line, he has also contributed to connect science and policy, with different actions from reports to divulgation activities.
