Ivanice Monteiro was born on 20 September 1981 in Mindelo, on São Vicente Island, Republic of Cabo Verde. She is a marine biologist with a master’s degree in oceanography and marine resources management. She is a technical staff member at the Instituto do Mar (IMar, IP), where she is responsible for the laboratories of the Ocean Science Centre Mindelo (OSCM) and serves as local coordinator. She is the focal point for several international research projects, including TRIATLAS, AWA, and PREFACE, all funded by the European Union and implemented in collaboration with European and African partners. She has participated in numerous marine research campaigns aboard international research vessels as part of hydrography teams, with responsibilities covering laboratory analyses such as dissolved oxygen, nutrients, chlorophyll, alkalinity, pH, and salinity. Although her primary work is in hydrography, she also has a strong interest in fisheries and in promoting citizen science. She has significant experience working with high school students, including involvement in initiatives such as the COLLECT project.
