I hold a degree in Chemistry from the Complutense University of Madrid and have over 20 years of experience at the Marine Environment Quality Laboratory of the Centre for Ports and Coastal Studies at CEDEX. The laboratory is currently specializing in the qualitative and quantitative analysis of microplastics in sediments and surface waters using Laser Direct Infrared (LDIR) technology, among other techniques. It also develops and optimizes methodologies to combat marine pollution and provides technical support to the General Directorate for the Coast and the Sea of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge in the implementation of various Directives, including the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD). In addition, the laboratory carries out the analytical characterization of water, sand, and dredged material samples (PCBs, PAHs, heavy metals, etc.), using techniques such as gas chromatography and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS).
